I started writing this shortly after Bo Diddley died - it took a while! If ever there was someone who could claim to be A King of Rock 'n' Roll, it was the Diddley Daddy himself.
lyrics
He cut his first hit record back in ‘55
that had a certain something kept the folks alive
He had a square guitar that looked like outa space
And Maraca man Jerome just kept it on the pace
His glasses gave him style
His check jacket was wild
There’s never been another like him ever, ever, ever…
(He’s a) King of Rock’n’Roll
(He’s a) King of Rock’n’Roll
Got a crazy rhythm with a crazy beat
He’s a King of Rock’n’Roll
Everybody tried to copy him but few can do it right
His chugging boogie-woogie gets it every night
His voice is like a siren, calling all to move
Cos once he starts that playing your whole body gotta groove
His beat it was so driving
His rhythm is still thriving
There’s never been another like him ever, ever, ever…
When he passed away and joined that great band in the sky
They all must be rejoicing but left us down here to cry
That chugga chugga throbbing comes from high up in the clouds
But we can still all hear it laying loud loud loud
His influence goes for
Buddy Holly, Johnny Marr
There’s never been another like him ever, ever, ever…
